Power Women, Power Tools Held in L.A.

Power Women/ Power Tools

When it comes to building projects for those in need, women like these are always ready to pick up their power tools and pitch in.

On May 16, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles hosted the 5th annual “Power Women, Power Tools” build event as part of its Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity initiative. Over 200 Power Women came together at Sony Pictures Studios to frame walls for six new sustainable homes, which will be moved to a ten home site in the City of Lynwood. The new site is aiming for LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

In addition to framing walls for Lynwood´s new Green neighborhood, a goal was set to raise $150,000 for an all-women sponsored home that will break ground during next year´s “Power Women, Power Tools” build event. This initiative is in response to the L.A> housing crisis that prevents many families from seeking safe and affordable shelter.

Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit housing ministry, has built over 300,00 houses around the world, providing more than 1.5 million people with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity looks to accomplish its goal of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness around the world.
